The Woodside, Worsley, Manchester- “Great Restaurant, but felt like cost cutting on the food side of things”

This is my third visit with friends to The Woodside. I love the decor, the very attentive staff and the general ambience of the place which is much improved since my last visit.

Sadly I think the food is not quite what it used to be. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing terribly wrong with it, but when the starters came all 4 of us thought that the portion sizes were smaller than we expected.

My wife and I had the shoulder of lamb and to be honest this was the smallest portion of lamb I have encountered in a restaurant like the Woodside. I felt the food lacked flavour and so did my wife and the shredded cabbage added nothing to the dish … Felt like I was eating shredded cardboard.

The desert was fine.

To be fair our waiter Danny was excellent and picked up on our rather coy feelings and knocked a bit off the bill.

Whilst a nice gesture, perhaps next time ask the chef to add more seasoning, create an impressive plate that feels good value and doesn’t make me feel that a cost cutting exercise is in place.

Would I go back? Yes… Definitely … Still a good place to visit.
