My wife and I took a trip out towards Blackburn. The countryside in this part of Lancashire retains its authentic look with beige stone homes a recurring theme.
It’s hilly too, but this is an asset to the area giving it unique character as this area once had a thriving cotton industry. Water wheels would have run the factories from the abundant rainfall that would run off the West Pennine Moors.
We headed for lunch up a steep country lane to The Spread Eagle. It had a really large car park which you find just round the bend on the right as we passed the pub.
This is a Greene King owned establishment I am told by Kris the manager who greeted us with warmth and a welcoming smile. We booked, but I’m not sure that was really necessary for our lunch, however I am glad we did because the telephone booking service was an efficient automated robot that confidently confirmed our booking and alerted Kris to our arrival.
The pub is really well designed and appointed with pictures and atmosphere. It’s really welcoming especially with someone like Kris from Milton Keynes who interacts and engages with everyone. Greene King have a real asset in him and I can see why they asked him to manage it.
We sat by the wood log fire in two high backed chairs and a small round table. Each time the fire died down one of the staff would add more wood and coal to the hot embers. Then it would spring back into life.
The menu was reasonably extensive with an app to help you get free drinks and food once registered. You can order from the app or at the bar.
The food was really tasty and typical pub food with an edge. This is a Chef & Brewer and a visit here is a must.

Make sure you download the Greene King app for special deals and visit the website here.
