The Romans and Vikings thought this part of the country on the River Cam was worthy of establishing this area for trade and habitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1209 the University of Cambridge was founded. It became a centre for learning; in those days, led by the church, colleges were established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city of Cambridge is an eclectic mix from various eras. You see Tudor, Georgian and Victorian architecture set amongst the latest modern office buildings and shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The various colleges from the ages surround the chapels, the very chapels their sponsors built to stimulate learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking around the city, we saw students graduating in collars and robes. Streets bustling with people of every nationality, shopping, sightseeing and proud parents with students from the University of Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restaurants, cafes and bars were everywhere, and then there was the River Cam with punts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were lucky enough to be shown the debating chamber by our nephew, who attained his Master’s here some years before. Sitting in the chamber, he described the many debates that took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
