We were aware of the ongoing civil unrest in La Paz and along the artery roads from Peru leading to this fascinating city. As a result our plans to drive over the border from Puno, Lake Titicaca were changed by the protesting indigenous people of Bolivia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These protesters and supporters of the former President Morales were outraged after the cutting of fuel subsidies that doubled the cost of fuel and caused food costs to rise rapidly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We were therefore forced to drive back to Juliaca International airport where we flew all the way back to Lima. Here we boarded a flight to Cusco. That night we stayed at the Antigua San Blas for one night before catching a flight to La Paz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As we flew circuits that took us between mountains and gave us an overview of this sprawling capital we landed at La Paz to be met by a cheerful guide called LJ and our driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our hotel was located on the other side of the city which is where we were heading with our luggage until LJ suggested that we should see the city via the metro system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
