Our trip to Tanzania in February 2025 ended with a week in the sun in Nungwi, Zanzibar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had an early start on our final day as we had a flight to catch up to Nairobi. It was just a one-hour flight from Zanzibar with Kenyan Airways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We arrived around noon and were met as arranged by our driver, Martin. He had a lovely, clean people carrier at our disposal for 36 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After giving us time to freshen up and lunch at the Tamarind Tree Hotel, Martin took us to the Karen district to the Giraffe Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, there are endangered Rothschild giraffes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were videos and explanations about the giraffes and how the centre functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You walk along a winding platform that brings you to a comfortable height for the giraffes to take food from your hand. They are quiet, graceful, and have the most extended tongues ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That evening, we ate out at a great restaurant called the Talisman, which I’d highly recommend. The atmosphere and food were perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After extending the room the following day, we set off into Nairobi National Park. My mission was to see the Rhino, and we weren’t disappointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was nothing compared to the recent trip to the Serengeti, but we saw animals and a hippopotamus walking across the road, which was a bonus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From here, we headed to the Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary, where we heard stories of rescued baby elephants and saw them being fed milk from giant baby bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The afternoon was spent relaxing by the hotel pool before our flight home to the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was surprised by how modern the city and its roads were. Although the traffic in some areas appeared gridlocked, drivers knew precisely how to manoeuvre. Many of the buses were colourful and overcrowded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were areas with modern structures, neon lights, and other parts left behind in poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a small taste of Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
